What is good design?
Is it a color scheme on the bleeding edge of the trend? Is it the latest from Paris Fashion Week? It is even a classic favorite never goes out of style? I think not. I believe this misunderstands the fundamental nature of design. Design is more than ornamentation, design is at its heart about function. There is an inherent beauty about things that "just work". When we refer to something as elegant it is beautiful for how simply and cleanly it executes its intended purpose. This is not to say that there is no place for Baroque of even Rococo ostentation, but good design considers first what purpose needs to be served and then contemplates the forms that fill that function. This here is the true distinction between simply decorating and actually designing.
